FAMILY and I’ve Arrived TCR #41

We have gone from snow storms for the past 2 weeks to rain today….what strange weather. The rain stopped long enough for me to get a couple photos of what I have been working on this weekend. This first layout was done for this weeks palette #41 at The Color Room. The colors are beautiful this week, very soft and delicate colors. The photo is my nieces new baby.  I used Nancy O’Dell paper, the hummingbird series…..lovely paper, the whole collection. I did lots and lots of layers and distressed them all.
I made all the flowers on this layout. My Twisted Flower Tutorial, but I made the vine to go with the flowers also. That was fun, my first vine. I watched a tutorial here to get ideas how to make a vine. Thanks Gabby. In this close up you can also see the distressing close up and the punching that I did around the photo. I used chalk inks on both.
I used a My Minds Eye brad in the top left corner and I made the swirls on transparencies and then cut them out for the layout. I printed out the butterflies and cut them out and added some stickles to them.
This next layout is called FAMILY. The photo is my DH’s family. ! I used my Swirlydoos Basic Grey Curio kit. I did a lot of distressing on this layout.

I used some generic flowers, flowers from my Twisted Flower Tutorial and lots of fussy cut out flowers from the kit paper. I added pop ups to the fussy cut ones to make them stick out. The flower tutorial is on a link on the right.
I did some stamping in the corners and under the photo area with a swirl stamp from Tim Holtz. Stamping is becoming a new fav of mine. You can add so much to a stamped area and fill in many void areas as well. You can really see the distressing in this close up. The title box is velum.
You can see more stamping and the butterfly that I cut out and added to the layout in this close up.
Thank you so much for stopping in for a peek. I hope that you all have a fantastic week and that we all get some sunshine this week. Feel free to leave me some scrappy love comments, I love reading them ...take care and happy scrapping J

Twisted Flower Tutorial

These are really easy to make and if you just try one you will see that.

Supplies:

Cardstock
Skewer stick
Glue – I use my glue gun
Inks
Glimmer mist or perfect pearls mist
Gems or Stickles, something for the centers of the flowers

First you need to cut out six petals, I use my cricut but you can use what you have to punch out the flowers.
2 at 1 ¾ inches
2 at 1 ½ inches
1 at 1 ¼ inches

Next step: I ink the petals around the outter edges a bit, then I mist the petals with water.  You take the skewer and roll the petals towards you and pinch them at the same time. They will look like this after this step is done.

I then pinch and twist each petal and after that is done I ink the twisted part just a bit more. Now you can let them dry for about 15 minutes or so but I get impatient and use my heat gun on them so that I can finish them up right away. This is what they look like at this point now.

The next step is you glue all the petals together(I actually use my glue gun), alternating which way each petal goes. Then you just dab a bit of stickles in the center and add a gem or pearl to it. For a nice pearly finish I like to spray the completed flowers with Perfect Pearls or Glimmer mist.
These take about 10 minutes to make and really they are so simple. I love the look of them. Here is a layout with some of the flowers on it. Have fun with them.
Thanks for looking and have a great weekend .

Big Air

Well I have done a “dude” layout. This is my son getting some big air on his sled. He likes to go a bit extreme. This layout was made for a challenge at Swirlydoos. I had to use an action photo, chipboard and acrylic paint for the layout. I used BoBunny papers and distressed them.

In this close up you can see a Basics swirl that I added. I made my own flowers and I tried to use some grungier colors for them since this is a “dude” layout. Hey who says I cant use flowers everywhere, hehe. I had some old chipboard circles around so I painted them with black acrylic paint then I added some Distress Crackle and liquid pearls to them.

I also painted the chippy letters and added some dyed diamond crystals and gems to them. I painted some swirls with black acrylic and added some pearl smooch and some gems to the swirls.

I stamped on some swirls under the photo and painted them with black acrylic and added the smooth and gems there as well.

I do not do many men layouts, but this was so much fun to make. I think that I might frame this one and give it to my son. He does love his sledding photos. My next layout will have the same twisted flowers on it and a tutuorial to go with it. Thank you so much for stopping in for a peek and I hope that your weekend is awesome! Little Darling **Scrapthat**

TGIF!!!!! Well that makes me happy, its Friday, the sun is popping out after I have been snowed in for the week. Not fun driving to work this past week.  The photo is of my grand daughter, I made this layout for a make your own flowers challenge at Scrapthat. Most of the stuff came in my last kit from them. The papers are from My Mind’s Eye Lost and Found collection. I did a lot of distressing and inking on all the layers in this layout.
I used a Dusty Attic chippy under the photo. First I painted it with Acrylics and then I inked and used some distress stickles on it. The two larger white flowers I made from a tutorial at Swirlydoos. The other flowers are from the kit and some are from Petaloo.
I did some punching around the edge of the mat circle and added a black distressed and inked mat behind it. There was some lace with the kits and I added a couple pieces in this layout. The brads are mostly generic and from my stash.
I added some Diamond Glaze to the butterfly that I stamped on. I also glazed the word section here. The glaze is shiny and it is raised when it dries....its pretty cool! In this close up you can really see the distressing and inking on this layout.

I just got some goodies from Swirlydoos and lots of plans for those layouts. I also created a very cool flower last night that I will be doing a tutorial for on here in the next few days.
Thank you so much for stopping in for a peek and I hope that your week is fantastic! Feel free to leave me some scrappy love comments, I love reading them ...take care and happy scrapping J

Charming **Scrapthat**

I got one of my kits yesterday, my Scrapthat kit….the paper and embellishments are gorgeous as usual. For this layout I used the monthly sketch. I decided to use these funny photos from out of one of those machines in a mall, it is my daughter and me being silly.  The papers are from My Mind’s Eye Lost and Found collection. The first layer on this layout is just inked cardstock.
I did water distressing on the second layer of paper and lots of inking on all of the layers. The larger flowers I made from a tutorial at Swirlydoos. I added some diamond glaze (which comes with the kit) to my flowers that I made. The leaves I stamped, cut them out, inked them, used the glaze on them and when it was dry I misted them with Smooch Spritz.

Over on the left side I added some stickles around the photos and you can see the lace and ribbon that I used on the layers. The Swirl I used liquid pearls on a transparency and then cut it out and added to my layout.
In the top corner I cut the title from one of the papers and did some stamping under it. I am loving the TH stamps that I got. I added diamond glaze to the stamped area and also to the title card. When it dries it has a raised effect and is cool. I cut the banner from one of the papers as well and added some liquid pearls to it. The brad is also from the My Mind’s Eye collection. And finally to finish it off I added a butterfly that came with the kit.
I also made a card a couple days ago, nothing special, I just want to have a few cards around for when I need them. I used G45 papers and added some stickles, ribbon, and liquid pearls to it. The roses are fussy cut from the G45 paper too.
Thank you so much for stopping in for a peek and I hope that your week is fantastic! Feel free to leave me some scrappy love comments, I love reading them ...take care and happy scrapping J

Huggs and The Best of Times

Happy Sunday and welcome to my blog. This layout I made for a challenge over at Swirlydoos.  The photo is of two of my grandkids at Christmas, they were so cute. The challenge is to use odd number of things on the layout, such as I made 7 flowers, I used 9 layers of paper and I machine stitched 11 lines and so on. What a fun challenge. I used my Swirlydoos Curio kit for this layout. That kit is almost gone and I had so much fun with it. The papers were sooo gorgeous to work with.
I did a lot of planning on this layout because I wanted to sew on it. I did machine stitching on pretty much every layer. I also distressed most of the layers. In this close up you can see the flowers that I made. The orange flowers are a great tutorial at Swirlydoos and I made the cute little fan flowers as well. I tucked in some green bloomers with the flowers and added some Prima leaves. Behind the cluster of flowers and in the corners and along the bottom I did some stamping. I just found a Tim Holtz stamp collection that I forgotten I had bought before Christmas. That was a bonus to find that. The butterfly is from Reflections and I added some gems in the corner.

In this close up you can see the swirls that I made with liquid pearls and in the center of one I added a Prima gem. The chippy letters I did some stamping on them with Distress ink and added a little fan flower in the top corner. This was a fun challenge and I love the way the layout turned out.

For my second layout this one was just done for fun for me. I had a need to do some water distressing hehe. The photo is me and my two sister in laws and me in Vegas last fall. I am the one on the right with the glasses on. We were in a lounge listening to this awesome band and having fun dancing and drinking.  I made all the flowers on this layout and used some bright colored papers from my stash. The doily I misted with two different colors of Smooch. The chippys swirls I first painted with acrylics and then added some stickles to them.
There are 3 different types of flowers here, the big fan flower I used a paper doily and a Prima gem in the center of it. The turquoise flowers are from a tutorial at Swirlydoos and the the other 5 flowers I used a water distressed technique to make them and then added some stickles or crystals to them. I added in some stemons with the flowers and a twig vine at the bottom.
In this close up is the fan flower section and you can really see the water distressing and inking that I did.
I printed out some butterflies, added some stickles and gems to them. In the bottom corner I added a bow with a big gem in the center of it.
Thank you so much for stopping in for a peek and I hope that  your week is fantastic! Feel free to leave me some scrappy love comments, I love reading them ...take care and happy scrapping J

I love you because – TCR #40 / Swirlydoos

Hello and welcome to my blog. I did this layout for this weeks palette #40 at The Color Room. I am having fun with their weekly palettes and they are challenging me to scrap out of my comfort zone. AND to top it all off I won a RAK from Purple Onion Designs…cant wait to see what it is J  When I first saw this weeks palette I had no clue, these are not my normal colors, I usually have to add in something brighter to a layout…but in the end I LOVE this layout and the way it turned out, and I got to try a few new things along the way. I used my Swirlydoos Basic Grey Curio kit for the background and papers from my stash for the rest. I inked the black bottom paper and distressed most of the top ones.
The faux envelopes were fun to make. A tutorial from Kay at Scrapthat.  Here  is the link to it. I added a few extra touches of my own to them, like the little chippy hearts from Basic Grey and the little banner. I tucked some fanned paper in behind them with a couple of folded Prima flowers.
The flowers are mainly from Prima. The black swirls I cut with my cricut and the bling swirls I made myself. They are brown and white, it is kind of hard to see the white in these photos though. I added some ZVA crystals to the letters and another little banner at the bottom.
I used a paper frame around the photo and added some rolled and distressed papers behind it. I tucked some flowers in the corners and added brown and cream liquid pearls to the frame. I put some ZVA crystals on the Basic Grey chippy under the frame. Under that chippy is some really cool lacey paper that came with my Curio kit.
So yes even though the colors scared me at first I love the way this layout of my daughter and grandson turned out. He is a cute lil monkey. Thanks for stopping in for a peek and feel free to leave me some scrappy love comments, I love reading them ...take care and happy scrapping J

Wine Country – Swirlydoos Round Robin

I got to go first this month in the Round Robin Challenge at Swirlydoos, so next week the next person gets to do a lift of this layout…FUN! I used my Swirlydoos Basic Grey Curio kit. The photo is my DH when we went on a Wine Tour last year. Such a cool truck and it was basically a flower planter, very cool and such a great time on the tour.
The newsprint fowers are from Recollection Boutique Fleur and I was kinda hoarding them. I added some yellow flowers in with them for color. The leaves are fussing cutting from the curio paper then I used pop ups on them. I did some stamping behind them and added some stickles to the stamped areas. The laced up section, I used a Martha Stewart loopy punch and some My Minds Eye brads. This is the first time that I have done lacing on a layout and it was fun, I can see me using that technique in the future.  I used black cardstock in the background and did some distressing on the top layers.
In this close up you can see the water distressing that I did on the green paper, I used some chalk inks on the distressed areas. The chippy I covered with 2 different Distress inks then added some stickles to it.
Below is another close up of the flowers and leaves. I cut out the butterflies and added some stickles to them and used pop ups on them. The swirl is a Prima Say it with Pearls and Lace.
As a bonus here is another card that I made with my Curio kit. I added some ruffles that came in the kit and made my own swirls. I think I will send this card to my daughter. She was home for Christmas but I miss her already.
Thanks for stopping in for a peek and feel free to leave me some scrappy love comments, I love reading them ...take care and happy scrapping J

Two Cards

Happy Wednesday to everyone!!! I have decided to make a few cards every so often to have on hand when I need them. Nothing worse than needing a card at the last moment and you cant even get to a store to get one, and besides, home made ones have so much more meaning to them. The first card is called Forever Friends and is made with my Swirlydoos Basic Grey Curio kit.
I cut out the bird and added some stickles to it. The larger flower and the envelope also came with the kit as extras. I tucked in a couple yellow and orange Prima flowers behind the large flower and envelope. I inked around the edges and used a punch on the scalloped edge.
I used a flower/vine stamp behind the flower and added some gems on the card.
The next card I used Webster’s Pages Your Life. I did some cut outs and used pop ups on them. The flowers are from Petaloo and I also have a painted chippy behind the center flower.
You can see a close up of the flowers and the faux stitching that I did around the edges and I added some lace to the title section.
In this close up you can see the stickles and liquid pearls that I used.
